Ghorepani, Poon Hill Trek
Before entering into the Ghorepani, Poon Hill Trek, I would like to pass on some basic Information regarding Annapurna Conservation Area which was the 1st and the Largest Conservation Area of whole Nepal.
Ghorepani is a village in Myagdi District in the Dhawalagiri Zone of northern-central Nepal. It lies 17 kilometres from the district capital of Baglung at an elevation of approximately 2874m (9429ft). The village lies within the Annapurna Conservation Area (ACA) and contains a number of "guest houses" that provide lodging and meals to mountain trekkers, many of whom spend the night before a pre-dawn trek to the top of nearby Poon Hill (3210m/10531ft) to watch the sunrise.
The place used to be a rest stop where ancient traders found water (pani in Nepali) for their horses (ghoda in Nepali) thus leading to the nomenclature Ghorepani.
Ghorepani lies on a major trail linking several other villages as well as the Annapurna Base Camp. From the South-East direction, it can normally be reached by foot from the village of Birethanti in about 10 hours depending on the trekker. However, many trekkers prefer to overnight at one of the lower villages on their way to Ghorepani, covering the distance over two days owing to the steepness of the trail, the increase in altitude and the beauty of the natural surroundings. From the North-West direction, Ghorepani can be reached in about 8 - 10 hours starting from Tatopani. This trail passes through the villages of Shikha, Dana and Chitre.. Ghorepani, Pun Hill Trek is world's Best Trekking spot in the world.takes you to the Heart of Annapurna and Fishtail.
Annapurna (its a Sanskrit word meaning Food specially Crops) is a section of the Himalayas in the North Central Nepal that includes 8,091 m (26,545 ft) Annapurna I, thirteen additional peaks over 7,000 m (22,970 ft) and 16 more over 6,000 m (19,690 ft).
Annapurna I is 10th among Earth's fourteen 8 thousand meters other Himalayas present in Nepal as well as in other parts of the World..
At 8167meter Dhaulagiri I rises 34 Km to the West across the Kali Gandaki Gorge, considered Earth's deepest canyon. Annapurna is a Sanskrit name which literally means "full of food" (feminine form), but is normally translated as Goddess of Harvest. In the rligion Hinduism, Annapurna is "... the universal and timeless Feeding Goddess ... the mother who feeds."
Without her there is starvation, a universal fear: This makes Annapurna a Universal Goddess ... Her most popular shrine is located in Kashi, on the banks of the river Ganga." Her association with the giving of food (wealth) led her in time to be known as Laxmi, the Goddess of Wealth.
The entire massif and surrounding area are protected within the 7,629 km2 Annapurna Conservation Area, the first and largest conservation area in Nepal. The Annapurna Conservation Area is home to several world-class treks including the Annapurna Circuit.
